Flu Vaccination

Influenza is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Every flu season is different, and influenza infection can affect people differently. Even healthy people can get very sick from the flu and spread it to others. 

An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to reduce the chances that you will get seasonal flu and lessen the chance that you will spread it to others. When more people get vaccinated against the flu, less flu can spread through that community.

Patients that are usually eligible for a flu vaccination are those patients that fall into one the following categories:

Patients over 65, Patients under 65 who are in an our risk group, pregnant ladies and carers.

As we have limited stock of flu vaccinations, it is important that we prioritise our supplies for those patients who do fall into one of the above categories.

Fluenz

Fluenz is a new vaccination that is given to patients between the ages of 24 months and 18 years of age. When a person is given the vaccine, the immune system (the body's natural defense system) will produce its own protection against the influenza virus. The vaccine is administered in the form of a nasal spray and none of the ingredients contained in the vaccine can cause flu.

The practice will contact the parents/guardians of all of the patients who are eligible to have this vaccination in due course.
