Non-NHS Work

The Government’s contract with GPs covers medical services to NHS patients including the provision of ongoing medical treatment. Any other work is known as “non-NHS” and is usually chargeable.

However, non-NHS work which is not covered under the GP NHS contract (including writing letters and filling in forms on behalf of patients) is NOT compulsory.

Request for Medical Forms and Letters

Please do NOT book a GP appointment to request a letter/form. Please request an Over The Counter Request Form which is available at  the Reception Desk

What is Non – NHS Work?

Non NHS work is services offered to our patients that is not provided within our NHS contract.

What services are provided to patients as part of non-NHS work?

This work included the following examples:

  • Completion of accident/insurance reports
  • Pre employment medicals
  • Travel vaccinations
  • Private prescriptions
  • Access to patient medical records

Will there be a fee charged for these services?

It is important to understand that many GP’s are self employed and non- NHS is an extra workload that is not offered as part of our NHS contract. GP’s do  not have to carry out non-NHS work, however the GP’s at Brookvale will always try to help their patients when they are able to do so.

Why GPs sometimes charge fees

How much will I be charged?

The British Medical Association (BMA) suggests fees that GP’s may charge, however this information is issued as guidance only. Please click on the link below for further details of the fees for non-NHS work.

Flu Vaccinations

Flu vaccinations are only routinely offered to patients over 65, carers, pregnant ladies and those patients that are at risk. If you fall into one of these categories then practice will have already have contacted you. If you have not contacted the practice and you fall into one of these categories then please contact the practice.

Influenza is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Every flu season is different, and influenza infection can affect people differently. Even healthy people can get very sick from the flu and spread it to others.

An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to reduce the chances that you will get seasonal flu and lessen the chance that you will spread it to others. When more people get vaccinated against the flu, less flu can spread through that community.

Patients that are usually eligible for a flu vaccination are those patients that fall into one the following categories:

Patients over 65, Patients under 65 who are in an our risk group, pregnant ladies and carers.

As we have limited stock of flu vaccinations, it is important that we prioritise our supplies for those patients who do fall into one of the above categories.

If you do fall into one of the above categories, then please contact the practice to book an an appointment for your vaccination.

Fluenz

Fluenz is a new vaccination that is given to patients between the ages of 24 months and 18 years of age. When a person is given the vaccine, the immune system (the body’s natural defense system) will produce its own protection against the influenza virus. The vaccine is administered in the form of a nasal spray and none of the ingredients contained in the vaccine can cause flu.

The practice will contact the parents/guardians of all of the patients who are eligible to have this vaccination in due course.

Further information about the vaccine can be found by clicking the link below or by contacting the practice.
