Enhancing Consultations with AI-Assisted Note Taking

We are currently  piloting  Heidi Health, an NHS-approved and security-assured digital tool that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to support clinical note-taking during your consultation. This system has been thoroughly checked to ensure it meets strict NHS confidentiality and data protection standards.

Why are we using it?

Heidi Health allows your clinician to focus more directly on your ideas, concerns and expectations. By accurately transcribing spoken information into your medical record, it helps us ensure your views are fully heard and documented – improving the safety and quality of your care.

Your Rights and Consent

We will assume that all patients are happy for us to use Heidi Health during their consultation. However, you are free to opt out at any time, whether before, during, or after the consultation. Simply let your clinician know, and we will revert to standard manual note-taking.

This is consistent with the NHS Long Term Plan’s commitment to the safe and responsible adoption of digital technologies, aimed at enhancing patient care while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and clinical practice. A BBC News article, published on 14 January 2025, highlights the increasing utilisation of this technology across general practice and hospital settings.

Voice Transcription Accuracy

As we become familiar with this technology, there may be occasional transcription errors. We will review and correct these wherever possible before they are saved to your notes. If you notice any inaccuracies in your records – which you can view via your NHS app – please inform us, and we will amend them promptly.
